Fr. Brandon Dang was born in Torrance, California in 1988 to Jonathan and Cynthia Dang.
When he was 4 years old, his family moved and established themselves in Aliso Viejo, a small city in South Orange County. He grew up there and went to the public schools in the newly developed area.
Fr. Brandon became Catholic at the age of 9 after his mother’s conversion and continually attended Faith Formation as well as the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Group at St. Nicholas in Laguna Woods, which is his home parish.
What also helped him grow in his faith was being an altar server, it gave him a deep love and appreciation for the Liturgy.
After high school, he attended Irvine Valley College with the hopes of following his Dad’s footsteps – being a family man and having a career in computers. He was majoring in Computer Engineering and had planned on subsequently transferring to CSU, Long Beach.
In his second year at Irvine Valley College, he had attended, totally by chance, a Vocations Retreat with his youth group. And it was at this retreat, he heard a priest speak of his vocation story; he spoke of how much he loves the priesthood and how he experienced God the Father’s deep love for him. It was this that had him hooked.
After much discernment, a few months later he had a supernatural/mystical experience with the Eucharist in which Jesus told me, “Come after me, and I will make you a fisher of men;” it deeply moved him to discern the call to priesthood.
He could not help but think only following the voice of God can fulfill his deepest desires.
In August 2009, he entered St. Patrick’s Seminary & University to begin formation to the priesthood for the Diocese of Orange.
On June 11th, 2016, he was ordained as a priest by the Most Reverend Kevin Vann at St. Columban’s Catholic Church in Garden Grove.
